‘Cause it’s your birthday
Just back in Colorado last night. Might as well get back in the groove. I feel like today was the start of training season but its going to be a slow build for a while. I am suffering from 15 extra pounds since Leadville race weight. That is sort of expected. I can’t hold race weight. So now its time to whittle down and feel good again.
Hiked up the front as usual but ran most of Saddle Rock on. Got a better workout because of it. There was a group running and that gave me chase for a bit too. Didn’t put on the spikes at all to the summit. If you were PR’ing, it would have been worth it though. Only needed them on the descent down the back for that first long pitch after the 4-way. After that, it was smooth sailing.
An interesting thing occurred to me today out there. I am leading with my right leg again. My right leg has been the laggard for 2 years since the hip injury shut it down. Prior, it was my go-to leg. Now my left is ailing a bit. The knee is doing this new thing that hurts when I run a decent pace but then works itself out after a few miles. Its causing me not to plant well and I twisted on my ankle a few times today. But its good to see the right stepping back up.
I went 6.01 miles with an elevation gain of 2,504 feet in 01:31:05, which is an average pace of 15:10. View my GPS data on Garmin Connect.
