Kim and Sydney headed out to one of Sydney’s classmates birthday party. Leaving Peep and I with some quality time. I asked her what she wanted to do. She listed a few things like board games in the basements, riding her scooter, and watching a Barbie movie. She doesn’t know her Daddy very well. So I told her we were going to the mountains!
She was mostly excited because she wanted to go to Bear Peak — to see a bear. Well, I decided that was a bit too much work for her and I today so we opted for Mount Sanitas. She didn’t know what kind of animal a “Sanitas” was, so she said we should go to “Fox Peak” (which does not exist) so she could see a fox. Get it?
I carried Reagan in the backpack up the East Sanitas Trail. It was about 88 degrees but I motored through it. Passing others who were not carrying a 40+ pound kid on their back. She is definitely too heavy for the backpack but it gives a good leg strength workout. I talked Reagan into hiking once we hit the rock climbs. She was up for that! Tight squeeze.
There is even a cave-ish area that she had to check out.
Lots of steps on Sanitas. She couldn’t quite figure out how nature made steps like this for us to walk on.
As we neared the summit, I was pulling out my motivational tricks to get her to the pole — that is the summit marker on Sanitas. Reagan summits at 4 years old! Ok, not the whole way under her power but everything from the rocks on. Great job, Peep!
We had our picnic lunch on the summit and enjoyed the views — with a billion other people. Now, I know why I run this on Wednesday mornings in solitude.
Brought my video camera along of course because Reagan wanted to show Kim and Sydney what this was all about.
Like any good hiker, Reagan started bonking on the way down. So I put her back into the pack and made my way down. Anything that was flat, we ran. I pretended to be a horse and that quickly had her laughing the rest of the way down. People we passed thought we were crazy — just how we like it!
