Brian, Kalle and I went karting tonight at SpeedRing. After our previous race for the Latitude Cup, we said it was going to be just practice but everybody is always all out. They just resurfaced the track last week so it wasn’t the same for me. Some people did much better but I did a lot worse. I was constantly spinning out. My tires just wouldn’t stick the same as they had in previous sessions at this track. I ended that session with a best time of 0:34.542.
Before our next race, we were watching the next group after us go. They were very good. It wasn’t until a few minutes later that we learned that the girl in that race was the track record holder. Apparently, all the locals that are experts come and race on Thursday night. Oops. Wrong crowd for us novices.
So when our sprint started all these experts came out with us. Oddly, they lined up behind us on the start and shot past us all in the first turn! I ended the session 3 laps down at the end of the 42 lap race. Not bad but not great. The lady pictured here is the track record holder.
After talking to the guy at the front desk, we learned that they have driving classes that will surely shave seconds off your time. We decided that if we took the class and could shave off 2-2.5 seconds per lap, we would be able to run with these guys a lot better. Sounds like a plan.
