RV Life

This spring we decided as a family that we needed to hit the road a bit more. When we started going to Leadville, we only went to Leadville. It is nice to have a home base in the mountains but it closes your mind to anything that is too far from home. So we started looking at campers. We shopped for travel trailers. Then went shopping for 5th wheels. Then went shopping for new trucks to pull those heavy monsters. Then shopped for Class A RV. Then went back to trailers. Then someone finally told us what we needed because we didn’t know what we wanted. A Class C RV.

The kids and the dogs get to just hang out while we put the miles in up front in the cab. You have all the nice comforts of home. I can drag any toys, tools, and accessories I want. It has Wifi so it is like a mobile office. It seemed like the right addition to our family. The dogs agree. They stand guard when we get out and it looks like this when we return.

We had to take it on a test overnight to just see if everything worked. A recommended practice by the dealer before you try and go far away for a long time. We headed up to Estes Park. Not too far but close enough. Just to practice backing into a camp site, hooking everything up, and seeing what 101 things we need that we don’t have. It is a mini-house so you gotta outfit the kitchen, shower, bedroom, etc.

The kids enjoy the campground life.  There are always things to do.  Places to ride your bike.  Games to play and more.

Dinner time.  We have a pretty nice kitchen inside with our grill outside.  Kim can whip up a meal that everyone will eat.

Remember, the dog mention?  Yeah, they like it too.  Riding around with the whole family instead of being at some kennel.  That’s a good life.

Metallica @ Mile High / Denver, CO / June 2017

It had been too long since there was a Metallica stadium tour. For me, it was the show of the summer — even though I have watched like every concert they do on YouTube. Just an old fan boy. And it never gets old.

Metallica

This tour had a set design Metallica had been using the past few years but I had never seen.  Basically, 5 huge LED screens (that NIN had 10 years ago) showing the action.  The guys are so small that unless you are like 5 rows back, you can’t see much.

Metallica

So you get the big James!

Metallica

Hoped this would show the scale but probably not.

Metallica

Just a few songs in, the unthinkable happened — they stopped the show!  See the lightning warning below.  It had started raining and lightning was seen around the stadium.  That white thing in the picture was the light rig and guys were working on those.  Pretty much a lightning rod.  We all found it ironic that Metallica had to stop for lightning — given their 2nd album is called “Ride the Lightning”.

Metallica

The majority of the stadium was cleared and people hung out in the concourses.  It was a bit claustrophobic in there.

Metallica

When we finally got going again, it took forever to get back onto the floor.  Made for some cool shots from a distance I guess.

Metallica

Of course, Metallica published some video of each show. Here is a song from Denver!

They also did a “Thank You” video for each city. Nice touch. They played as the show ended and the crowd funneled out.

Bush @ Paramount Theater / Denver, CO / June 2017

Hadn’t been to this theater for anything but comedy shows. Wondered how it would be for a rock show. Turns it was pretty good! Easy to park close. Nice GA standing pit up front. Liked it.

Bush. Gavin. Always a treat. I think we have covered this before but he is sort of a man-crush for me. And Sixteen Stone was like the best album of the 1990s so anytime I can hear it live again, I am in.

The concert was fairly standard for them. Gavin always starts out kinda sedate and ramps up over the course of the night. He came out into the crowd once again. This time going up to the balcony and standing on the edge. True rock star shit. Loved it.

A fan forever.

Breaking Benjamin @ Filmore / Denver, CO / Apr 2017

Breaking Benjamin

Never seen these guys as a headliner so I was excited to see a full set from them. I got there late so didn’t get up too far. The crowd wasn’t a moshing group so there wasn’t a lot of forward motion. Depressing.

Green Day @ 1st Bank Center / Broomfield, CO / Apr 2017

After being gone for too long, Green Day is back on tour. Excited that they are coming to Colorado twice this year. This show was a great midweek treat that I was looking forward to. This venue it paperless tickets so I proceeded through my usual process to get in. As I approached the floor, the guy stops me and says my ticket isn’t good for the floor. I looked down and I see that it says “GA….BOWL”. What is bowl? My blood temp is rising. He points up and says I have to go sit in the rafters in the back of the venue. I was floored. Somehow in the presale I got “GA Bowl”. Not “GA Floor”. Never happened to me before.

So I begrudgingly sat through the show in the back. I still enjoyed but it wasn’t the same. I wanted to go home but I stuck it out. Wha.

I will say that Green Day always delivers. They came on by 8:30 and played until 11:00. Bands these days struggle to start by 9:30 some nights. Lots of songs. Mostly American Idiot stuff.

Still had fun but I am going to check my tickets next time.
