Kim and I went down to Miami Beach for a conference this weekend. We left the kids at home for first time in a long time. We arrived to a tornado at the Miami airport and huge rain. So much for the beach time. We had work to do anyway. I figured things would get better soon. On the last day of the conference, we were finally able to get on the beach! South Beach that is.
After the conference, we drove down to Key West. Never been. It was quite a long drive down there. And kind of boring. Mostly on the land/island/keys with occasional water crossings. One big seven mile section over water but that was it for the big expansive drive. We were closer to Cuba than Miami when we got to the Southernmost place in the Continental US.
Key West was a happening place. Miles of stores, bars, people, and more. Everybody on bikes or mopeds cruising around. Our stay was brief so we just hit a few highlights -- mostly feline-based -- like the Catman street show and a visit to the Hemingway House to see the 6-toed cats. Remember who I was with.
We were able to soak up some rays on the beach in Key West until this piece of awesomeness came out! Everybody needs a swimsuit like that and the confidence to wear it.
Thanks, Florida. You aren't my favorite destination (humidity!) but you never fail to keep us busy.
