October has been a great month for my kind of shows in Denver. Last night was the final installment. Musically, it was the best for last. The return of 5FDP! I told my neighbor Dmitri how these guys rock hard and he joined me for a night of metal.
We missed the first band, Rain, but came just as Hatebreed was coming out. We moved quickly and got up to the front by utilizing the mosh pit gaps nicely. These guys were fierce. It was a good opener. Loud with lots of energy. Didn’t know a single song yet enjoyed the performance. During one song, the lead singer asked for all the ladies to get up on shoulders. Usually, that means that you start seeing some boobies here and there. Suddenly, some girl comes flying up from behind Dmitri and I. We were right in front of the “wall” up front so she couldn’t go any further. I noticed that her shirt seemed to be skin-colored but quickly realized that she was shirtless. She spun around and started grinding against some dude in the wall that had no clue or care to what was happening behind him. So there Dmitri and I stand moshing around with a 1/2 naked chick pseduo-pole dancing on the back of this guy in front of us. Totally within reach…to give you a sense of how close. Cool? Um, she is still here. She probably danced a couple of minutes in front of us. Kind of like a private show. She was totally wasted I think so she wasn’t there for us. It got long enough that it sort of started feeling uncomfortable. Um, go show other dudes your boobies now please. Eventually, she bolted back out of there and off into the dark of the back of the arena.
All That Remains
After that, we got out of the floor and went up and sat for a breather and a break before the headliner. All That Remains has a few notable hits so I was excited to see them. The lead singer has some wicked screaming range. How these guys perform night after night boggles my mind. Pretty good set. Crowd was moving. We enjoyed sitting in the back though and resting up for the mayhem to come.
These guys continue to be a favorite of mine. New album out a few weeks ago. Debuted at #3. That’s pretty awesome for metal these days. Excited to see them back in Denver. Had seen them open for Godsmack in this same venue last year. Ivan, the lead singer, continues to be a very animated and charismatic performer. Plus, he was born and raised in Denver so he continually reminds us of that and how awesome this place is. He is right.
The show itself didn’t have any new angles. Same songs plus new ones. Same work-ups to some songs. He even pulled the same crowd surfing stunt where he asks everyone to crowd surf up and shake his hand. Its madness. There are more people in the air than on the floor. People were surfing on top of other surfers. I was being crushed a few times by the weight of multiple surfers that were too heavy to be in the air. And why do you continually wear your work boots? Stop kicking me in the head when you go by with them. I was ready for that song to end.
They didn’t come on stage until after 10:30 and didn’t play until midnight…I think. It was short. I wasn’t too happy with that. Bring 4 bands and the headliner plays short. Oh well. Still worth the $10.67 ticket that I scored a deal on. I would have paid more. 5FDP is a top ten band for me these days.
Was pretty busy moshing and staying alive so I didn’t break out the camera out too much last night. Captured a few minutes of video during White Knuckles to give you a flavor of the show.
