Permalink Run: Attempt #3 (5.07 mi @ 09:40)

This morning went well. Iced it up after real good. Was able to chase the kids around and up and down stairs is no issue. So when it was time to take Syd to gymnastics, I grabbed the VFFs for a 2-fer. Yes, an injured 2-fer. I feel like easy running makes it feel better. It’s stretching out and feeling comfortable. My pace is way off. Somewhat on purpose but also because the VFFs are freaking out my stride a bit. Finished feeling just fine. Icing again tonight. Maybe longer tomorrow. If I can get to two 7 milers a day I will be content.

Got a great comment from Tony on yesterday’s post telling me about his experience with this exact same injury. Tibialis anterior muscle is mad at me. I am applying his advice on top of what I have doing so far.

So what have I been doing:

1) Ice pack - 2-3-4 times a day. As often as I can remember to get it back in the freezer and then get it back on my leg. My skin is now numb to the pain of a freezing raw ice pack applied directly on the skin.

2) Ibuprofen - Not to mask the pain. Usually taking them 2x a day.

3) VFFs - Wearing these shoes on every other run to help get my feet in a slightly different (hopefully better) ground striking pattern. Possibly shifting a lot of the force to my forefoot and back into my calf and keeping it off the sore spot.

That’s really it so far. I was 50/50 on going to the PT but I did call and I couldn’t get in until Wednesday. That felt like forever in the future. So I opted not to.

Tony gave me ideas on ART and cold laser. I recalled my chiropractor having that cold laser so I am booked in to see him Wednesday for that. Feeling better but willing to throw some time and money at it for a quicker and possibly more thorough improvement.

I went 5.07 miles with an elevation gain of 49 feet in 00:49:02, which is an average pace of 09:40. Heart rate average was 126. View my GPS data on Garmin Connect.
