Born To RunI have been putting off reading some books that caught my attention for about a year now while my eReader decision was complete. Now that the iPad is in hand, I immediately went and bought the first book on my list….but it wasn’t in Apple’s Bookstore. They didn’t carry it. So I bought it from the Amazon Kindle store and downloaded to my iPad and started reading. I have went back over to the iBook application a few times and read pages from the sample book (Winnie the Pooh). Frankly, I see little difference between the apps. Given Amazon’s headstart and multi-device support, I feel like buying books from the Kindle store is the better move right now. Page synchronization is sweet. Apple will clone all this eventually but I am going to stick with buying Kindle books for now. Kindle is the platform of choice while iPad is the device of choice. And the beauty is…you can have it all in one!
So many people have covered this book that I won’t go into it. You probably already read it anyway. Some of the concepts in the book are things I have learned over the prior year and have been already integrating into my running. So I ended up nodding my head a lot during this book. The stories of the Tarahumara have been making their way through my feed reader for the past year as well. But it was good to read some first hand accounts of how these guys live and run. I enjoyed the various references to things that are in my circle: Leadville, Tony as the Naked Guy, Aron, Nike, Boulder, VFFs, etc. Made it fun to read. I blasted through it in only a few sessions — mostly on the flight back from Hawaii.
In the end, I say its a must read for runners. It had me wanting to continue the path that I am on and look for more/continued adventure in my running.
What did you think of it? Or what should I read next? I need another book for this week’s flight.
