Run: Slow 18M (18.29 mi @ 07:42)Yesterday’s long run happened today. I waited around until about 11 AM to go in order to get the air temps up a little bit. It was like 6 degrees when I took the kids to school and that wasn’t going to be comfortable at all. Finally, in the teens when I started. Went with tights just for a little extra warmth. Not ideal temps for a long run but the sun kept it warm. Most of my St. Vrain Greenway Path was snowy so I had to cut to urban streets for a bunch of the run and that slowed things down. Traffic lights — yuck. Just a bunch of start and stop.
Anyway, thought I would meet Reagan at the ice skate place for a birthday party she was at mid-run but I was early. I waited a bit but started getting chilled so I so headed home. With about 2 miles to go, things started to fall apart. HR spiked up to LT and life started to get bad. I was bonking. I didn’t take enough GU. Oh well. I took one at 7 miles but at these temps the GU is just one big snot ball. So I didn’t want more.
Even with the bonk, the temps, the tights, the snow, and being tired, I put down the exact same pace for 18 as I did for 16 last week. A tick higher on the HR but I felt like if I could have stripped down a bit, I would have been on. Anyway, encouraging run even when my heart wasn’t in it going out the door.
IgniteBoulder is tomorrow night so I am changing my Green Day from Wednesday to Thursday just to even on the trips to Boulder. Should be a fun night. GZ and JM are coming out!
