Detour AheadApparently, the road from Boston to Leadville now takes a sweeping turn southwest a bit in June! $100 spent this morning at 7:01 AM for:
Why the change of heart? Well, as usual, I consulted my bros. Nearly all positive encouragement on the possibility of this race raising my game prior to the LT100. The MC story seems to be the only one that people would repeat when I asked why I shouldn’t do this race. I am not trying spit on his advice here but we have different goals. He was in both races to win. I am in both races to finish then go for time. I don’t have to go all out at Lake City but I will give it a solid effort. I hope it wakes up my racing senses. I don’t want to leave my Leadville in Lake City but I do want to compete. Hell, Brownie has at least two 100s scheduled prior to Leadville. I orginally thought of doing Silver Rush but it is too close to August for my tastes. So I am due for some 50 mile training runs so why not put myself in a race atmosphere for one? That should get me to that point where I want to quit but have to carry on. The climbs on the course should test my training to date. Plus, many I talked to said they were going to be out there. So now I am too! I should be a great time.
And who knows, if I pull off a win here and then go on to win Leadville too in the same year, GZ might just shift his attention to me. I can only dream.
Training camp? Still on. But I haven’t registered as of yet. Might wait it out just a bit. We are thinking of doing a 2 week family RV trip starting with Lake City and ending with Leadville. Almost 2 solid weeks of mountains, running, and road. Could be fun. Or could be hell on wheels with 3 kids and a dog. Looking into rentals. Seems fun to have my training center on wheels. Wake up and run in the mountains. Come back to my own shower then enjoy the day. It is the closest I can get to living out of my truck — and we all know that is the secret to success.
