Permalink Run: Coal Creek Trail (11.45 mi @ 07:42)

Seems like its been colder this week. I huddled inside this morning and tried to stay warm but my blood temp was just not getting there. At one point, I had a sweatshirt and hat on just trying to build up some body heat. All in preparation for my first night run — ever?

JP put out a call for a night run down in his hood. JV and I showed up. Started out at dusk but within a couple miles headlamps were on. Trail was mostly dirt with some paved sections. Ice in a few spots and some nastier ice at the underpasses. In the dark, you had to gauge your speed a bit as the terrain could turn from nice trail to ice at any minute. So pace varied a bit as we would get moving on some nice sections but then have to slow up to gauge the trail.

JP and I chatted a bit about his Leadville 100 experiences as I am always in the mood for more tips and research. A lot of it centered around nutrition which is always a challenge for any racer out there. I still need to do work in that area. The race is going to be too long to leave it to chance like normal.

Near the end, JV was the one calling for the bathroom — not I! We got back to the trailhead and he immediately drove off to get home. Apparently, he didn’t want to become the 2nd member of Team Shart.

We went 11.45 miles with an elevation gain of 525 feet in 01:28:12, which is an average pace of 07:42. View my GPS data.
