October Training Summary275.81 miles in 27 outings in a time of 42:22:42 with an elevation gain of 34,699 feet at an average heart rate of 148.
Last October was 111 miles. Basically, I tapered, ran Denver, and took the rest of the month off. This year, that me is gone. I ran big going into the taper, then took the taper pretty serious. Then got right back after it post-Denver. Had no soreness and I am motivated to stay fit and hold my fitness level through the holidays going into the start of the next training cycle - for Boston.
And because everyone else is trying to trend their year end miles up, I started tracking mine on the blog again. I put the odometer back on the sidebar. It is sitting at 1894 miles for the year right now. I will easily surpass 2000 for the year which was my original goal when the year started. That seemed like a nice improvement over last year. But after doing those 100 mile weeks this last cycle, I start wondering how many total miles are possible. But then again, who cares? It shouldn’t be about the quantity, but the quality. So not sure where things will top out. If I got after it, I could probably reach 2500. That’s probably the next round number that makes any sense. Or 2400, which is 12 * 200 so at least that would be a nice round monthly average. Guess I will just let the chips fall where they may. Just a tad disappointed that the back 1/2 of the year is way better than the front 1/2 of the year as far as miles go.
Only 1 more race for the year — Longmont Turkey Trot in 2 weeks. Excited about running a 10k just to PR and cap off the season. Then I need to get my balls chopped so we don’t spawn another clone. That should be some downtime.
