Permalink Run: Green Mountain (4.57 mi)

One training plans had Hills x 12 for today. The other had a track workout. It was a cold morning so I waited for things to warm up. Then Jeff wanted to know if I wanted to meet at Green after work. Sold! Last day as a bachelor so I must take advantage of that.

Traffic down was horrible. Are they fixing every god damn road I drive on these days? Going nuts. My dirt roads I run on are constantly closed. The major intersection on our highway is getting a full makeover. Now the Diagonal is getting paved. Ugh.

Jeff was already there so I caught him at the trailhead and was motivated to roll from all that sitting in traffic. So I blasted up through the first few sections. My HR quickly decided to shoot through the roof and explain to me that it is a taper week and I am not going to run that fast. Jeff was right on my tail, probably itching to pass me. We had some conversation and then I finally decided I had to come down a gear. So I told Jeff to go on without me and I would meet him. That was music to his ears — I think. He took off and I never saw him again. I struggled to find a good rhythm. For being on Green several times this year, it still isn’t solid for me. I don’t have the trail down when trying to run it point to point. Sanitas — I have figured out. Took me weeks. Not this one. So run then power-hike alternating up to the top. Jeff met me just as I started up the stairs at the top and we topped out together. Guess I was glad I saw him on the stairs and not halfway down or something. I am closing the gap. He was up in 37 as I recall. I was more like 44. Not my best day but a good solid 44 minutes of marathon pace or slightly higher HR with a quad workout.

We went back down some super secret way that Jeff knows. Always an adventure. Talked about a variety of things and suddenly back at the car in less than 30. I jetted over to Larkburger and grabbed dinner to go. Drove home. Showered. Picked up some flowers and headed out to DIA. Met the girls. They were all exhausted and at each others throats. Kim was giving the “if I hear it one more time” speech. I was just in la-la land after enjoying several days of peace and quiet.

I went 4.57 miles with an elevation gain of 2,446 feet in 01:13:47, which is an average pace of 16:09. View my GPS data.
