Permalink Busted Motor

Today, my motor broke. Tried to do my 4 x 1.5M Fast and blew it. I fucking hate this workout for starters. So I wasn’t mentally there. Then I never seem to get properly warmed up and I blow the first interval leading to more blowing on the subsequent. Tried a combination of pausing during or running slower to finish. Neither felt good. It was 92 out today so the jump in heat didn’t help. Did I finally get tired?

Between intervals, I was burping, farting, and heaving. Not pretty. All I know is that I am eating too much air when I run this fast.

The plan had HR target at 168-174 bpm. I maxed at 163 today. Which observation is correct?

1) My HR isn’t being pushed because I am limited to some other weakest link (legs, lungs) and I have a cool 10 bpm to go.

2) My HR is maxed and I have the heart of a 50 year old man.

Anyway, heading for the hills in the morning to regain my groove (I hope).

Then I got comp’d into a race on Labor Day by runcolo.com. I was very tentative on this race but now I think it is key. I need to push the pace for 10 miles in a race setting to get a benchmark. I don’t want to blow Boulder or Denver so a good test run at a freaky distance should be perfect.
