Run: Green Mountain With Bears! (4.89 mi)Before bed last night, I was channel surfing while Kim finished up with Kayla. “Bear Attack” was on…I watched a bit.
On to today. Good day to run uphill so I went down to Boulder. Decided on Green because I haven’t been consistent there. Parked at Gregory and headed up the canyon. Quickly noticed that the trail signs changed from “no leash” for dogs to “must leash”. What the heck! Wyatt was at home but I felt like his privileges were removed. Cranked up to the top with headphones blasting. Barely walked any of it. First time for that! Some ladybugs still on top.
Summited via Ranger in 46:52. No FKT but probably my PR. Could pull off a few minutes with a warm-up and pacer.
Then I saw a ranger and asked about the leash change. He explained that bears are feeding in the canyon RIGHT WHERE I CAME UP. Mom and a cub. He sees them there each evening and monitors them. Now I understood the leash rule! I talked about the bears for a bit with him. He didn’t seem to concerned about hikers running into them. Happens each day. Just give them space and don’t approach.
I headed back down via Greenman. My legs were wobbly and I wasn’t getting into the downhill groove today. So I took it easy. The trail got quiet and lonely. My mind kept telling me I was going to see that bear. I would occasionally run into a hiker going the opposite way and gain some sense of safety. They made it alive! When I got near Saddle Rock I could look down into the canyon. Where is that bear? Then as I started down I heard her. Off in the distance. Two chuffs back to back. Same sound as the TV show. Yikes. I carefully jogged down from there. A little further down, I saw the water and moving bushes. Kept going and saw the ranger again who informed me that the bears had crossed the trail back there. Bye! Full speed ahead!
After, went to BRC and picked up some Lunaracers! Pulling out all speed tricks now. Might have to shave my legs too.
While catching up tonight, I saw this picture taken on Baseline Road this evening. I parked at the end of Baseline today. Click through and look at the split in the tree. Hi Mama!
I went 4.89 miles with an elevation gain of 2,413 feet in 01:27:47, which is an average pace of 17:56. View my GPS data.
Put down another slow 5M in the evening bear free. 2-fer!
