Run: WCR 28 (5.11 mi)I thought today was going to be an off day. Not.
I thought I might be getting a cold last night. I took a warm bath and that helped. Plus, Kim was overtired from baby cooking so we went to bed at 9 PM. The extra sleep must have helped because I woke up pretty refreshed. That excuse went away.
I woke up to an inch of snow on the ground. I ran in shorts yesterday. Colorado weather. That was a good excuse not to go out this morning in the wetness. No issues with snow of course but when you have run in shorts EVERY DAY since January, it is a little hard to put the pants back on. Well, my meetings wrapped up and the snow had melted. That excuse went away.
So I energized with a Red Bull and went for a good solid tempo run. I was thinking to myself on the run how I make it a point to run on dirt for some, if not most, of my runs each day. The slippage and roughness of the roads make for a bit of extra challenge on the runs. I think its doing a good job at building my stability overall. I notice it when I hit the road — my pace drops (goes faster) but nearly 0:15/mile or so. I hope this prepares me for the big races ahead this summer.
My only complaint right now is my weight. Those winter pounds are sticking. Usually, they start dropping in the spring and with more running earlier, I figured it would be easy to shed. But it isn’t happening. Still up maybe 10 pounds over my Denver Marathon weight from last fall. I really don’t want to start watching my food any more than I do. I know my problem is portions but it is a challenge to stay fueled and lose.
I went 5.11 miles with an elevation gain of 158 feet in 38 minutes, which is a moving pace of 7:34. View my full GPS data.
