Kim’s Birthday

Today was my beautiful wife’s birthday! Let me just say that I hate that her birthday is always 2 weeks before mine so that I have to show my hand before she shows hers. However, never fear…I had a secret up my sleeve…fondue!

Kim's Birthday

Kim and I haven’t eaten at La Fondue in many many years. Since we lived in California, actually. But with one in Downtown Denver, it seemed like a great fit — except that dinner takes 2 hours and we are taking 2 kids. How will that go?

We did pre-plan and brought some new coloring books that kept the kids busy during the downtime. But as soon as the cooking began, someone in a blue dress got right into the action!

And while it looks like this kid is into the action as well, it wasn’t for long. She wouldn’t eat and wasn’t too interested in much. So I pulled out the big guns — “Be good and I will get you McDonalds when we are done”. Problem solved.

In the meantime, Sydney continued to eat anything and everything — shrimp, steak, lobster, chicken, veggies, and more! Nothing phased her. Everything was good. Until we got to the desert, which is chocolate fondue. “No thanks”, said Sydney. This kid eats anything but won’t touch the stuff. Syd still won the “proud prize” of the weekend for all her biking, running, and eating.

Prior to the meal, a part of me wished we could have had a “kid free” date for her birthday dinner. However, it turned out to be a wonderful experience with the kids and Kim and I got to have a few moments while the kids were busy coloring at eating. We went around the table and everyone had to say why they thought Mommy was special. Then we sang and wrapped up the evening — in the drive-through at McDonalds.
