Permalink Sorry For The Delay

Luke believes that I slow down his intertubes (and yours) with my updates. I have a new twist!

So I have mainly been doing my updates via brightkite. Why? I like the service. Need an invite? I like the iPhone app. I like the location angle to it all. It is fun. The original issue was how to get that location info onto my blog. I used a combination of plugins for Movable Type and some hackery to get the location info from brightkite and post to the map in my sidebar. It also goes over to Fire Eagle but I don’t do anything with it there.

For the status updates from brightkite, I used brightkite’s Twitter feature to send the status update to Twitter. From there, the Twitter Facebook app picks up the update and posts it to my Facebook status. My MT-Twitter plugin does the work to post the tweet on my blog. Good. My main services are covered.

Now, lately I have been doing more photos taken with brightkite. I wanted those on my blog first off. So I used my ActionStreams Poster plugin hack to read the update and post an entry when a new brightkite photo goes up. After sometime, I noticed that I should also be posting those photos to Facebook. How to do that one? Enter ping.fm. Ping has a great email in feature where you can send status updates and photos via email. So I had my ActionStreams Poster plugin send off an email to ping.fm when it sees a new status update or photo from brightkite. From there, ping.fm posts that update to Facebook, Pownce, MySpace, Jaiku, Plaxo Pulse, and LinkedIn. So every update is now as of yesterday posted everywhere I can think of.

Why do all that? Because I can. Happy status updates to all!
