Permalink Need Help With WinHelp

I have to update a WinHelp project that I wrote years ago using RoboHelp 5. My RoboHelp 5 install is jacked and I can’t seem to fix it. I can’t find my install software either.

So I think my only choice is to upgrade or switch. So what I need to do is find something that will read my RoboHelp project files and be able to allow me to edit with Office 2007 (or its own editor) and then output the old fashioned WinHelp (.HLP) files. I can’t support .CHM because of other factors.

Looks like I have 3 major choices:

  • RoboHelp 7: Looks like $999. Don’t think I can get upgrade pricing because I can find anything from my old version. Assuming it will import old projects and I see it still supports WinHelp.
  • Doc-To-Help for Word: $750, imports RoboHelp Word and outputs WinHelp.
  • Flare: $899 but it looks like they might sell it for $499 on a special. Imports RoboHelp projects but now on further inspection, I don’t see WinHelp output. So no dice? I emailed them.
  • Help & Manual: Looks like I can get their standard edition at $399. Does RoboHelp import and WinHelp output.

Anyone with any advice/experience with these?

UPDATE: Went with Help & Manual. Love it. Works well. Prints right to PDF. No more Word doc post processing hacking!
