Permalink Shame On Me

I am pissing it away. Out on those long runs and in my sleep, I often am dreaming about the next great thing to do. However, I am not executing these ideas as well as I should be.

A few years ago it was music plugins. I did a plugin in Now Playing and have helped thousands of people sport their tunes on their blogs. The part I never did was the web site backend. Now sites like iLike.com are blowing the doors off and getting great publicity while I sit here with the “I thought of that” regrets.

In the latest installment, I ran across socialpicks.com today. It is basically a better version of what I tried to start with damagetheory.com back in 2006. They are getting press in Forbes and the WSJ now. DamageTheory remains but is dusty and stale.

Its not so much sour grapes but the knowing that I was there early and didn’t make the move. I executed part of the way but didn’t think it through for all the possibilities. Its convenient for me to only do enough but not take it the whole way. I need to change that and risk more on these ideas. Maybe its lack of confidence but I don’t think so. Its probably more just being busy and not wanting to put more on my plate. God, I must be getting old or something.

Back in 1998 I created this site - www.baycrew.com - for one primary reason.... To help keep my group of buddies keep in contact with one another.

Each profile included bios, photos, current job, marital status, favorite teams, favorite drinks, etc... and a paragraph about what's going on in their lives.

Sounds a lot like myspace doesn't it? And when I asked the guys what they thought about me opening it up to the general public they convinced me not to. I missed the boat on that one for sure....

So this time around when I was sitting in my garage trying to find a good fishing website I figured what the heck, I'll try and make one myself. That night www.sanjosebass.com was born and now it pays for itself and then some (email me for details). The site is now getting about 4000 page loads and 500 unique visitors a day and I don't put any work into it at all. To spice things up a bit and increase my visitor total I just ordered a "hat cam" from Xtreme Recall to capture video of me catching fish. Should be pretty cool I guess....

I'd like to create 50 more of these types of sites (area specific) but I sure could use some developement help. Let me know if you are interested. Just imagine if we created 500 sites and each of them was making us a few bucks a day. Cha-ching!
