SaddamDo I have this correct? While Saddam was the President of Iraq in the 1980s, some people tried to kill him. Not a huge surprise there. Now at his trial, the people that apparently had tried to kill him are testifying because Saddam did bad things to them after their assassination attempt failed? I may have to go out a limb here with Saddam and say that is pretty bogus.
In the US if someone merely threatens our President, some dudes with earpieces show up at your house and mess with you — so I hear. Its not too surprising to me that in Iraq, the President would send his boys over to mess you up a bit. Probably more aggressively than our President’s boys would because it is Iraq after all. And you tried to kill the dude. If you don’t like his policies, you can either leave the country or kill the guy. Each has its own consequences.
No doubt that Saddam is a bad man. But are these the best charges they can come up with? And I like how the trial goes on without him. In the US, that would drive the media nuts.
