Permalink Thoughts on Apple

After become a self-proclaimed Apple lover, I am starting to see the issues that people frequently bitch about. So I was watching the Apple news wherein they release a bunch of new stuff. I always like new stuff but I found myself depressed after watching it. Some buyer’s remorse?

First, they showed the new iMac G5. Has a couple things that we could use. Like the remote control thing. Sydney watches movies on the G5 daily. This would be easier. Guess I have to buy a new iMac to get that? Didn’t see or hear about a way to fit the feature onto old iMacs…yet. However, I was surprised that this iMac announcement came with the Intel chips still on the way. I would NOT buy a Mac right now. I would wait until the Intel chips came out. The Mac community is switching rapidly. I was working with Apple the other day and they released some Intel-based code to me for testing. Hello? I don’t have one of those yet! So I like the enhancements, bumbed I can’t have them, but we are all on the old crap so it doesn’t matter anyway.

Second, this selling video stuff. Straight off…I am glad SOMEBODY is doing this. Now, nobody is going to buy it yet but that is a different problem. I told me wife she could buy old episodes for #1.99 and she told me to get lost. Why buy it if its on TiVo for free. Plus, she said only geeks watch TV on computers. Yeah, right now they do. So for a test, I downloaded a NIN video I hadn’t seen. Went to play it and it shows the video in 320x240 (which is small for you that are not aware) on my big screen. WTF? I just paid $1.99 for some shitty ass small video that I can’t even see and it blurs when I make it fullscreen. In the age where I just spent thousands of dollars trying to get HD video all in the house, now I need a damn magnifying glass. Judgment: Apple video on computer = sucks.

Last, the new iPod. Know I know this is going to be a good home for the crappy video because the screen size is made for it. I get that. However, iPods have been selling like candy except they cost a whole lot more than candy. I have 3 and I am running out of excuses to tell the wife on why I need a new one with the new stuff. Dear Steve Jobs, make my current iPod photo (that already has a color screen) work with some of this new stuff. Maybe its a chip problem and not just a software upgrade. OK, I understand that — but I can still be pissed can’t I? Well, I don’t really want to watch TV on my iPod anyway. That might cause a car accident in short order.

There. Got that off my chest. Anyone else feeling that way?
