Permalink More Nerd Junk

My Canon S900 inkjet printer has been freaking out lately. It doesn’t like to print cyan. I kept putting in new cartridges but no luck. I couldn’t figure out how to clean it anymore than I did so I bit the bullet and decided to upgrade my printer. With the color laser prices dropping so fast, I was ready to buy in.

After much comparison shopping, I ended up with the somewhat massive Dell 3100cn Color Laser Printer. I added the optional duplex module. So now I have great laser color prints 2 sides at a time. We print a fair amount of materials for Orion so this will be great to have. I read that these printers are rebranded Lexmark printers.

The printer has some cool features but I haven’t really been through them all yet. I set it up as a network printer which should help make it more accessible for everyone. I have the Mac even printing to it successfully now. Took a few minutes because there are a couple different driver options (IPP vs. LPD) that I have no understanding of. The printer also has a web-based interface for configuration. Pretty nice.

I will still visit my buddies at Kinkos for my big work because Dell doesn’t make binding machines — yet.
