AirPort Express Finally Works
Got my AirPort Express the other day and finally hooked it up tonight. I thought I knew what I was doing but everytime I would hook it up, it wouldn’t work. It went dead. I had to do a hard reset on it.
The first thing I learned that was disappointing was that it will not act as a repeater for 3rd party Wi-Fi access points — like my Linksys. That would have been nice. Oh well, not necessary. I guess. After more reading, I figured out the setting I needed and proceeded. But everytime I restarted with the new config, it wouldn’t work again. What’s going on?
After a bit of googling I found out that if you have WEP enabled, you have to put a “0x” before the WEP key when you enter it. That seems strange. I will try it. It worked! Shit. I wasted a night of my life on this that I will never get back. My wife is pissed (I think) because I kept messing with this damn thing all night. She still doesn’t understand why its cool anyway.
So it works. I am happy.
