Jeff Gordon that is. So Jeff was on the pole today. He is one of the greatest at this track, Watkins Glen. So diving into turn 1, the rookie next to him spins him out and Gordon is immediately shuffled to the back of the line. What a way to start the day! Yeah, its racing...but its also turn 1 so let's not try and kill each other 10 seconds into the race, ok Biffle? So being the champion Jeff is, he battles back all day. Some crazy pit stop action puts a group of 4 drivers out in front but the next guy after them...Jeff. He is passing a car a lap. This is a road race so passing isn't the easiest. But Gordon gets all the way backup into 3rd position. What a day?!?! Anyway, gas is getting tight and Gordon ends up sputtering out on the last lap. Seemed the like engine would go a little but he couldn't get on it. So coming around the last turn before the checkered flag, Harvick hits Gordon from behind and spins him out maybe 100 feet from the finish line and all the cars come racing past Gordon and he finishes the race as the last car on the lead lap. Man, if I would have missed the first 15 seconds and the last 15 seconds of the race, it would have been one of the great Jeff Gordon performances. Now, you can always argue that you shouldn't have put yourself in that position, sure....but when I guy takes 2 major licks in 2 key places in one day you have to wonder what these champions are made of. See you in Bristol in 2 weeks Jeff. We better be putting some boys into the wall there!
